Unfortunately, today is the last session until after the summer, but hopefully by the middle of August we will have received the mat and missions. Last session we started copying the robot that Sam had already built so that we would have three robots. We completed that today so we now have three great robots! We were also able to take apart all the old frames and sort Lego into the right boxes last week. Today we read through the Tech HEds rules so that we each know them. In the morning the whole of the team and a few siblings went to a special photo session where we were taught how to use a camera. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed getting tips and advice. Over all we had a great time with all our friends during the whole day.

Today was our open day for, and we had a family visit to see what Tech HEds was all about. We started by introducing ourselves, then we told them about 2018-2019’s season and what was involved. After this we gave a demonstration of this year’s robot and showed them most of the missions it performed. we also showed them a film of our presentation which they enjoyed watching. We then got all the Lego out and had some free time to build whatever we wanted. This was followed by lunch, football and another free building session. Towards the end of this week’s session we tested next seasons robot using the Mindstorm app on a mobile phone. This was a successful session!
Jacob Team member Today, in the morning, Sam started work on the new core robot for the next season, while Annie, Grace, John and Louis began to build and plan a frame for a mission they were going to do as practice for next season. After lunch and a riotous game of football, Sam carried on with the core robot, John and Louis continued with the frame and mechanisms for the mission, and Annie and Grace thought about designs for a new T-shirt for the Tech HEds. Overall we had a successful session!
Grace and Annie Team Members Yesterday we had a visitor, Louis, who came to see what Tech HEds was about. In the morning half the team worked on the building of the Shaker and got it finished. Later on we programmed the robot and videoed it shaking the dice and pouring them onto the table. The other half of the team worked on making a short video of our solution for the Into Orbit season. They had this completed this by lunchtime. As a team we worked on making a video for the competition, which detailed all of our highlights for this season. In the afternoon we played a game of pairs for our core values exercise.
Jacob Team Member This week Jacob, Sam, and John H started work on the “Shaker,” a robot that is being built and programmed to shake dice in a cup and tip them out. So far we finished the mechanism that shakes the dice and we hope that the Shaker will be finished by next session. This shaker will be used for a filming competition in which we get to make a film of 2 minutes. In this film we have 30 seconds for the project, 25 seconds Core Values, and 13 seconds for the Shaker. We had a very long discussion about things that went well and things that didn't. During this discussion we thought about what we could improve for next season in all areas.
Annie and Jacob Team Members This session was the next meeting after the Nationals. As there was not much business to discuss then siblings were allowed to come as well. During the morning we sat and chatted until the pizza was ready to eat. We really loved eating our pizza as there was lots to choose from. After lunch we want out to play football as we could not miss out on football on a party. After we had play an exciting game of football we came back and played “Taboo” all together until it was time to leave.
Annie Team Member Like previous years, the Nationals was held at UWE in Bristol. In the morning, after the opening ceremony, we had our robot design presentation. We all thought it had went OK! Then it was our turn on the robot game, and we got 105 points (one more than the highest score that we got at the Regionals) which we were quite pleased with. Then followed our Project presentation which went really well, we then did our second round on the robot, getting our highest score of the day. 156 points! After that we were taken through for our Core Values presentation, after which followed lunch! Our next robot run got 148 points, and we had got through to the knockouts with 5th place! Our next robot run did not go so well getting 73 points. This meant we did not get through to the next stage of the knockouts but the knockouts do not count to any of the trophies. After this we didn’t have much to do, so we sat down and waited for the Awards Ceremony. We were thrilled when we were awarded the 2nd place Champion’s trophy!! L20 were the 1st place Champion’s. A repeat of the Regionals with L20 1st and us 2nd. We received an invitation to go to the internationals at Turkey, and are waiting to see who (if anyone) can go. We may be able to go to the U.S. if L20 are not able to go.
Grace and Annie Team Members Today we did lots of different jobs in order to be ready for Saturday. We split into different group throughout the day to do most of the jobs. In the morning:
