P.S. Apologies for the delay, I completely forgot to do the blog.
Today we had our third robot run, which was a bit of a disaster. The MT3 frame didn't go on properly, so we ran it again, and this time it jammed, so it scored us one third of the points in twice the time. In the end we scored 142, so our best was 167. After that was the award ceremony. They gave us third place for programming, saying "Everything a program should have, this one had! Clear, Concise, Efficient!" Needless to say, we were ecstatic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O5Ca1iUK7c&feature=youtu.be&t=20562 This very successful year is probably the best one Tech HEds has ever had, so Peter D has indicated he will be withdrawing next year to focus on his schoolwork.
Peter H Team Member P.S. Apologies for the delay, I completely forgot to do the blog. Today we had all three of our presentations. First up, the Project. The judges appeared to be reasonably impressed. Next, Core Values. The judges seemed nearly as impressed as with the project. Then we had the Robot Design after lunch. In between these Matthew and I were preparing for our second robot run. This went slightly better then last time, but I made a mistake. The other team were going to do the animal conservation mission, but I accidentally ran MT3 with the animals included. That messed up, and was going to lose both of us 60 points. However, I persuaded the head ref to give the points to the other team as it was our mistake. So in the end we got 167. After this we had dinner, followed by science show in the arena. That was cool. Then there was a big party in the pits before going home after the penultimate day of the competition.
Peter H Team Member The weather was a lot cooler today. Yesterday was the hottest day since 1976! We started today by going to Bath to walk around and visit the Roman Baths. After that, we had lunch, followed by preparation for our first robot run. For a few reasons, we didn't do very well, with the Johns scoring 131 out of our target of 247. We hope to do better tomorrow. After dinner, we took an open top bus tour, followed by Matthew and me prepping for tomorrow's robot run.
Peter H Team Member We arrived in Bath for the IOC today. We started setting up our pit area. We put up some push pipe frames from which we hung bunting and flags. We spent some time fine tuning the robots on the competition mats, and were mostly successful. We went to the cafeteria for tea, and hung around outside for a bit. Following all that was the flag ceremony. This involved everyone hanging around queued in a narrow corridor waiting to go on stage and make some noise. The queue involved people singing in every language under the sun. We enjoyed singing "Rule, Brittannia!" "Every Where We Go...," and "God Save the Queen" at the tops of our voices. We're all somewhat exhausted, but looking forward to tomorrow, and our first robot round.
Peter H Team Member In our last meeting before the IOC, we practiced the project and core values presentations, and did a core values exercise with three story dice, then the Johns, Peter H, and Matthew practiced the robot game, and Peter D, Samuel, and Gabriel modified the robot design presentation. Then in the afternoon we practiced the project, robot design, and core values presentations. Then we did more practice on the robot game, and the Johns also modified the Mission Trip strategy diagram.
John H Team Member Today, as, usual, it was practice, practice, practice. In the morning, we practiced our presentations and went through the rubrics, and in the afternoon, John S, John H, Peter H, and Matthew practiced the robot game. Samuel was filling in the team form for the IOC, and Peter D was cleaning our union flag's flagpole, (We have to take one for a flag parade.) and also working on our robot design presentation.
John and Peter H, Team Members Today, in the morning, we practiced the project presentation, the core values presentation, and the robot game. Then, in the afternoon, the Johns, Matthew and Peter H practiced the robot changeovers .
John H Team member As John S has rewritten the project presentation, in the morning we practised that, and
We changed our meeting times from today to reflect changing bus times, starting and finishing 30 minutes and an hour later, respectively.
In the morning we discussed the homework
After a long break from work over Easter,we got back together again to prepare for the Internationals. We had invitations to go to the World Festival at St Louis, the European Open at Aarhus, or the International Open at Bath University, and we decided to go to Bath.
