There were two things to party about today, the first being the fact that we won at our Regional Competition (obviously). The second was the fact that John S would not have been able to make the Nationals if it were on a Sunday like it has been the last few years, will be able to come to the Nationals, as it has been moved to a Saturday this year!! Anyway, in the morning we had a few forms to fill out, mainly to do with entry and registration for the National Competition. We also distributed the various trophies. Then, after pizza for lunch, we played a team game of RISK, and then indoor cricket.

We had an excellent time at the Wessex Regional Championships today, and performed well in all areas. We arrived around 9am, and did some tweaking on the robot. At 11 we presented our project, which went perfectly as far as I'm concerned. That was followed by the first robot round, and then the robot design and core values interview. After that, we had our other robot rounds. Due to regularly failing at the rain and never managing the flower, we only scored 110 out of our 235 target. However, this was easily enough to carry us through. Over the rest of the afternoon we had the knockouts, in which we performed fairly well.
Ultimately, we came third in Robot Performance and second in the Knockouts. We don't yet know how well we did in the other areas, but we will get the rubrics (Judge's Forms) back soon. I for one was rather tensed up during the awards ceremony, as we received the Second Place Robot Trophy for the first time in the team's memory. We did, however receive the First Champion's Trophy, topping off a fantastic day with an excellent finish. We'll meet on Thursday in a week's time to debrief, party, and distribute the spoils. (Trophies) Sadly, John S is leaving us after the debrief due to growing pressures from his schoolwork. Here's to an even better Nationals! Peter H Team Leader This was our last session before the Wessex Regionals at the Hewlett Pacard labs on Wednesday. This session was dedicated mainly to the robot, so in the morning we all practised the Project Presentation, and former team member and the coach's son, Peter D, asked us some questions. In the afternoon, John H, Sam, and Grace worked on re-organising some of our boxes of our LEGO bricks, as our coach accidentally tripped over one of them earlier. Peter H and John S worked on the robot changeovers a lot. We also practised our Robot Design Presentation and our Core Values. Peter D asked us questions for both. Peter H will be posting the next blog post after the Regionals.
John H Team Member It was a busy day today, in the morning we all practised the Project Presentation. John S wrote a list of 20 possible questions the judges could ask, and we practised answering them. Then, in the afternoon,
John H Team Member As Gabriel was sick this week, and therefore unable to attend, Grace, John H, Peter, and Samuel read through the project document which John, helped by Grace, had finished writing since our last session. Peter H and Samuel worked on making some small improvements to the robot, which Peter almost finished over Christmas. John H helped John S with the presentation board as well. After lunch, we practiced the presentation a few times. Over Christmas, our Robot leader, Peter H, also wrote a "script" for those who are doing the robot at the table at the Regionals (John S, Peter, and Samuel), so they practiced that a bit in the morning and afternoon.
