Team Leader
Today, (Friday) we had just our final robot run and the awards ceremonies, along with pit inspection. The robot run was a bit of a disaster, scoring just 100 points. The pit inspection simply involved an interview with the judges, where they only asked about our project, seeming to indicate that we were contenders for an award. We spent a substantial portion of the day working on the tower, which while it was taller than the French, didn't quite get to standing. One of the Norwegians got an excellent picture of the top collapsing; that is below. In the end, we won the Second Place Award for Innovative Solution in the Project, bettering last year's record for the best Tech HEds season. At the end the wonderful staff were able to retrieve at our request the card that they read the team name from on stage, and two excess medals for Grace and John S, who were unable to attend. Peter H Team Leader Today (Thursday) we had all three presentations along with robot runs 1 and 2. The robot didn't perform as well as yesterday, scoring 150 and 160. Our Project, Core Values, and Robot Design, however, went well, particularly the project. We also had a lot of fun with a few Americans and Australians, building a Lego tower with the British Union Flag at the top, which was marginally higher than the French's and Brazilian's. (Credit where it's due to the French for the idea.) Somehow or other, this post was deleted, but to summarize we set up our pit and did our first robot run.
This is it; we're in Estonia! We left at silly o'clock yesterday morning, and arrived at the Tallinn airport at 14:30 to meet some of the lovely EOI team at customs, and they supplied us with a taxi ride to the apartment. We paid a visit to the shopping mall around the corner, and took a short walk through the centre of town. Today we are doing the tourist thing and visiting the old city. The competition starts tomorrow morning.
Peter H Team Leader P.S. Apologies for the delay in the publishing of the last post. |
