Our project is going well, and we will soon start working on our presentation in preparation for our regional competition at the HP Labs in Bristol on November 25th.

On the October 19th, we received two EV3 sets, kindly donated by the James Dyson Foundation (more about that to come soon). Our robots were updated to the new EV3 parts during the week, and on the 22nd, the team began to learn to use the new robots. The robots now run a lot smoother, and the teams working on their respective missions had to do some re-programming to componsate. All three missions are going well, especially as they have had to be changed to work with the new robots.

On October 15th, we once again worked on the Project in the morning, then the Robot Game in the afternoon. With the Project, we discussed all our questions about our solution idea, and we were all given research questions to work on for when we want to make the presentation.
We made quite a lot of progress on the robot game. The Mission 1 team managed to put the scrap car engine in its place in the car, the Mission 2 team earned points for the first time, and the Mission 3 team underwent a major overhaul of its program and robot’s design. John Team Member Last Thursday, we visited the Hills Household Recycling Centre in Devizes. This was to gain some more information about waste and how it is processed. We learnt about how Hills Waste Solutions deals with Wiltshire's waste, including plastics, paper/cardboard, glass, etc. We also obtained some information on how they deal with the 210 tonnes of tyres that Wiltshire disposes of each year. Visiting the Recycling Centre was very good because gave us further insight into waste disposal and recycling.
Upon returning to our meeting place, we had a poll on what our innovative solution would be. We had already decided that our project item would be tyres, and that our problem would be that tyres are difficult to recycle. The result of the poll was the choosing of laying down rubber on top of roads as our innovative solution. We will now being to conduct further research around our solution in the upcoming weeks. Once that was finished, we began work on the robot and missions. We are now beginning to score points, and one of the missions in already all but complete. We hope to get lots of work done during our next meeting after our current two week gap. Matthew Team Leader |
